00 / WORKFLOWS, SIDE BY SIDE

Hakopod
& Openship.

For developers who want one workflow across a desktop app, a server reached over SSH, and a hosted cloud, with Compose and monorepo services.

Will you deploy from a laptop, a server, or both?

Compare where the control plane runs, how Compose files and dashboard edits stay in sync, and how each service reaches the others before you rely on either.

01 Workload runtime

Hakopod

K3s runs the workloads. A Go API and reconciler keep accepted operations and history in PostgreSQL.

Openship

Apps run in Docker containers by default, or as plain processes in its bare mode. Servers connect over SSH; an OpenResty edge with certbot handles routing and HTTPS.

02 Source to deployment

Hakopod

Deploy an image or sync a TOML path from GitHub or GitLab. Dockerfile and buildpack builds run through configured provider CI.

Openship

Deploy from GitHub, a Git URL, a local folder or generated files. It detects the stack and runs install and build steps, or builds a Dockerfile.

03 Describing related services

Hakopod

One application TOML describes services, resource profiles, network membership, mounts and secret references. Review changes before deployment.

Openship

A project holds services from a docker-compose file or a monorepo. openship.json versions build, runtime and service settings, and repository changes merge with dashboard edits.

04 Configuration and credentials

Hakopod

Plain variables live per service. Secret values are stored separately and bound by scoped references in reviewed TOML.

Openship

Environment variables are encrypted at rest; marking one secret masks it in the dashboard and CLI. Values are kept per environment and can be overridden per service.

05 Private connections

Hakopod

Application-local networks and project/environment-scoped virtual segments connect selected services. Explicit peer rules restrict declared destination ports.

Openship

Services in a project share a project network and reach each other by service name. Each service is internal only unless you expose it publicly.

Check the details.

Based on the official documentation checked on 13 September 2026, and for Openship on 30 October 2026. These are workflow differences, not performance rankings. Hakopod is a development release and its shared Cloud service is planned. Editions, licenses and hosted pricing can change; confirm the current terms with each project.
